We Will Shoot Back: Armed Resistance in the Mississippi Freedom Movement, by Akinyele Umoja (2013). Brother Akinyele Umoja, like myself, embraced the Black Power Movement as a teenager. Brother Akinyele, like myself, became a part of the New Afrikan Independence Movement. And Brother Akinyele, like myself, wants to make sure that memory of the Black Power era is passed on to the next generation. Towards that end, he authored a brilliant text, dispelling the false notion of non-violent dominance in the civil rights movement. It is my hope that my upcoming memoir, #BlackPowerBlackLawyer, will “awaken, inform, provoke, move and, at its best, fire folk up to join, or continue, The Struggle.”
